How do I know if my child needs speech therapy?

Children can benefit from speech therapy for a variety of reasons. If you are unsure of whether or not your child needs speech/language therapy, I encourage you to contact me for a free 30 minute phone consultation to discuss your concerns. If it sounds like your child might benefit from my services, we can then schedule a full speech/language evaluation.

Why a speech therapist for reading intervention?

This is a great question, and one that I get asked a lot! SLPs are uniquely qualified to treat reading disabilities due to our extensive education in language and phonological (the sound system of language) development. We have a unique understanding of how speech/language disorders can often co-occur with reading delays/disorders and are able to address these issues simultaneously, making intervention with a reading-trained SLP a very efficient way to help your child reach their full reading AND speech and language potential! I took a special interest in reading disabilities when my own child was diagnosed with dyslexia, and I have completed extensive training in reading intervention in order to best support my clients.

I think my child has a speech/language delay, but my pediatrician/my child's teacher says I should wait and see. Should I hold off on speech therapy?

"Wait and see" are words SLPs never like to hear. The bottom line is, you know your child, and if you have concerns, it never hurts to speak to an expert to address those concerns. SLPs are experts in speech and language development, and the best way to know if your child might benefit from a speech/language evaluation is to speak with an SLP. Early intervention is key to success when it comes to speech, language, and reading delays.

Do you accept insurance?

Yes! I am currently in network with Horizon BC/BS of NJ and hope to soon be in network with Aetna and Cigna. If I am not in network with your insurance company and you still wish to utilize my services, I am happy to provide you with a super bill to submit to your insurance company to seek reimbursement if you have out of network coverage.
